Why Choose an Accredited School?

You could learn as a mechanic on the job as you go along. There is a risk that there may be gaps in your knowledge. Accredited mechanic school qualifications are recognized in industry. It may be difficult to convince a potential employer that you have the requisite skills and experience unless you can provide proof such as a certificate from one of these accredited mechanic schools.

The advantages of attending an accredited mechanic school are many. There will likely be a carefully thought out curriculum that is designed to work in an orderly fashion. This may be broken down into portions that are easily studied. Accredited mechanic school ensures that you get practice for certain procedures and safe handling training on equipment. These teachers are also employed because of their ability to train and teach others. These are not skills, which are generally available in a commercial work shop. You will also have the advantages of time too. If you try and learn on the job, you may be trying to juggle learning and work at the same time; never easy. While you may be tempted to go straight to work and learn there, think of training as an investment in your future. You will likely be earning a lot more when you graduate than your friends who went the other route. Finally, the Bureau of Labor states that opportunities are expected to be "very good" for trained mechanics. (Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2006-07 Edition, Automotive Service Technicians and Mechanics.)
